What is a Domain name and why do I need one?

Your Domain name is the name you choose to call yourself on the internet, it is part of your web address. A domain name would be "yourbusiness.co.uk" and the corresponding web address would be "www.yourbusiness.co.uk". When you register a domain name no one else in the world can have the same name as you. BUT ANYONE can register the name of your business as a domain and you can do NOTHING about it.

What Domain name can I have?

Anything that is not registered already. It can contain numbers 0-9, letters A-Z and hyphens (-). When you are thinking of a name also choose some variations, in case your first choice is not available. If you have internet access you can check out possible names at http://www.nic.uk/ (type in "yourbusiness.co.uk" & submit and it will tell you if there is a match already)

What is Email?

Electronic Mail is sent via the internet, more or less straight away to anywhere in the world for just the price of being logged on to the internet. You can also send colour pictures, files and more. With your own site, your e-mail address will look more professional, enquires@yourbusiness.co.uk  

What is web hosting and why do I need it?

If you have a web site you need somewhere to store it so that it can be accessed 24 hrs a day, this is called "hosting". The hosting computer (server) is a powerful computer that is permanently switched on and connected to several phone lines, this is provided by an Internet Service Provider or ISP. We supply this service for 2 years included in the price.

Why can't I get freeserve or some other free service to host my site?

Free internet service providers do NOT host domain names such as www.yourbusiness.co.uk as part of their free service. They will provide free hosting but will incorporate their own name in your web address. This will make your address very long and less professional looking.
